So, I've always loved "Hotter Than Hell". In fact it's in my top 5 KISS albums and it's not No. 5!

But, as I heard many, many of us complain, I too did have a slight problem with the way it has always sounded, in various degrees, and this is that it's horribly distorted. I've always connected the sound of the album with an image of over-heating amps and the rattling of metal, everything that was in the studio while it was recorded and everything of metal did ring and buzz, and was recorded with the instruments. Not good.

So, in an attempt to get rid of all that I deconstructed the best high resolution sound image I had and make it as wide and dynamic as possible with a reversed compression technique (sonic decompression). Then I filtered as delicately as possible quite some excessive noise and EQ'd it so that the good distortion is there, as raw as it should be, and most of the nasty distortion on guitars and snare mostly would be gone. And I added some low end, because it is a kind of thin, squashed production to begin with. And, as the final touch I mastered it to my optimum headroom benchmark, DR12.

I'm totally happy with the results, and wanted to share it with you, the KISS fan that is here for a reason, otherwise you would not have read this all, right?!

Enjoy!
